Pythagorean Numerology Chart

Your Pythagorean numerology chart

The most familiar numerology system turns your birth name and date into a handful of core numbers — your Life Path, Expression, Soul Urge, and Personality. Enter yours below to calculate them, right in your browser.

🔒 Calculated in your browser — your name and date are never sent or stored.

What a Pythagorean numerology chart is

Pythagorean numerology — named for the Greek mathematician — is the system most Western readings use. It assigns the letters A through Z the numbers 1 through 9 in order, then draws a set of core numbers from your birth name and birth date. Each describes a different layer of you:

  • 1. Life Path (from your birth date) — your overall direction and the lessons you're here to learn.
  • 2. Expression / Destiny (all the letters of your name) — your natural talents and how you get things done.
  • 3. Soul Urge (the vowels) — your inner motivation, what you truly want.
  • 4. Personality (the consonants) — the impression you make on the world.

The letter-to-number table

This is the exact mapping the calculator uses — the same one behind your AstroWise report:

123456789
ABCDEFGHI
JKLMNOPQR
STUVWXYZ

To reduce a total, add its digits until a single digit remains — unless it lands on a master number 11, 22, or 33, which are kept. For the Life Path, each part of the date (day, month, year) is reduced first, then those are added and reduced again.

A worked example

Say you were born on 14 November 1990. The day, 14, reduces to 1+4 = 5. The month, November, is 11 — a master number, so it stays 11. The year, 1990, reduces 1+9+9+0 = 19 → 1+9 = 10 → 1. Add the parts: 5 + 11 + 1 = 17, then 1+7 = 8. That's a Life Path 8 — the path of material mastery and the right use of power.

Your name works the same way: each letter becomes a number, the vowels give your Soul Urge, the consonants give your Personality, and all the letters together give your Expression. The calculator above does the arithmetic for you and keeps master numbers intact.

Why AstroWise uses two numerologies

Pythagorean isn't the only numerology. The older Chaldean system uses a different letter table (1–8, never 9) and leans on the name you use today rather than your birth name. The two often produce different numbers — and that's the point.

AstroWise runs both and treats them as separate voices, never merging them into one. Where they happen to agree, that agreement is meaningful; where they differ, that's noted rather than smoothed over. It's the same philosophy behind reading your whole chart across nine systems.

Your numbers, in full context

These core numbers are a real, precise result — but numerology is one lens among many. An AstroWise report reads you across nine systems and gives more weight to the themes several of them share, each with an AstroWise Confidence Score. Your Life Path becomes one voice among nine, checked against your astrology, your Human Design, your Mayan sign, and the rest.

Pythagorean numerology: common questions

What numbers are in a Pythagorean numerology chart?+

The core numbers are the Life Path (from your birth date), and the Expression, Soul Urge, and Personality numbers (from your full birth name). AstroWise also reads your Birthday number. Together they describe your direction, your talents, your inner motivation, and the impression you make.

How is the Life Path number calculated?+

Your birth day, month, and year are each reduced to a single digit (keeping master numbers where they occur), then added together and reduced once more. The result — 1–9 or a master number 11, 22, or 33 — is your Life Path.

What are master numbers?+

11, 22, and 33 are "master numbers." When a total reduces to one of them, it's kept rather than reduced further, because these carry a heightened, more demanding version of their base number (2, 4, and 6). AstroWise preserves master numbers throughout the chart.

Is my name or birth date stored?+

No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser. Your name and birth date are never sent to a server and nothing is stored.
